RAUM is a program funded by the City of Utrecht, to bring artists and makers into the city to question the future of the city through art and design. This project ran in several locations across the city, and included a visualization period where the data we discovered was shared back with the citizens.
RAUM commissioned Hello Lamp Post bring into the city to gather people’s perceptions of city ownership, and the role of the citizen in future cities.
Questions around this topic revealed a mixture of sentiment towards the future city design of Utrecht. Participants were either:
- Optimistic about the urban development of Utrecht, pleased to be consulted and hold a strong connection to the city.
- Concerned around commercial development, particularly central station and the success of the Leidsche Rijn area, and on the future of social cohesion & community.
- Apathetic towards the changes, with a lack of engagement on these issues.
